Hatoun Altharwa, LMHCA
“When you make peace with the fact that the purpose of life is not happiness, but rather experience and growth, happiness comes as a natural byproduct. When you are not seeking it as the objective, it will find its way to you”.
I believe in the importance of developing a safe and accepting space for my clients. My hope is that you will find yourself able to be your full honest and authentic self in the therapy room. This safety will allow you to thoroughly explore your ideas and beliefs of yourself. The therapy room becomes a space in which old beliefs are challenged and new healthy ideas emerge. I strive to create a safe space to explore and find true meaning and purpose in life and experience heightened self-awareness, self-understanding, self-respect, and self-motivation.
I specialize in working with children, adolescents, families and adults with complex issues, setting aside diagnostic labels and judgements and focusing on the client’s experience in its full richness and complexity.
I strive to deeply engage with and understand the lives of my clients, listening with open ears and an open mind, to fully understand the uniqueness of each client's situation, needs and perspectives. By doing so, I can help you create richer meanings in your life and deepen your relationships with others. I am committed to help my clients grow and heal by meeting you with humility, warmth, and compassion.
I work from a client centered approach, empowering and motivating my clients in the therapeutic process. I have experience working with diverse populations and value understanding my clients’ backgrounds, ethnicities, and belief systems.
I have experience, trainings and certifications working in different therapeutic models such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectal behavioral therapy (DBT), moral reconation therapy (MRT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), play therapy, trauma work, crisis response/interventions, the ARC model (Attachment, Regulation, Competency) and I also incorporate art therapy into my work with clients. I am always looking to grow and expand my knowledge to help each client find the approach that best fits their life journey and needs.
