Hello, I am so glad you are here. I'm Mara, and I am queer, transgender, non-binary, neurodivergent, and white-passing with mixed European and Mexican ancestry.

If you're anything like me, you might find the prospect of beginning a new therapeutic relationship daunting. I applaud you for taking this first crucial step.

My goal as your therapist is to create a space that serves as both refuge and workshop as we explore the nuance of your life story. I center the unique experience and expertise of my clients, many of whom come from marginalized communities overlooked by the dominant culture and mainstream mental health system. Through the cultivation of earned secure attachment in our relationship my clients work toward taking control of their personal journeys with courage and autonomy.

My approach...

I primarily work with individual adolescents and adults who are exploring gender identity, evolving sexual and relational identity, working through complex trauma, and/or are seeking a deeper and more fulfilling relationship with themselves.

I meet my clients from a place of compassion, non-judgment, and unconditional positive regard. In our work together I will offer precise and constructive feedback based on my observations of you, of your story, and of our ever-evolving therapeutic relationship. During session I will rely on my understanding of various counseling theories, particularly attachment theory and internal family systems (IFS), to help conceptualize and frame your story in a way that centers and highlights your strengths and values.

Professional training & memberships...

I began my journey in mental health working with vulnerable adults experiencing psychosis, manic episodes, houselessness, substance addiction, and suicidal depression. I've worn many hats in this field, ranging from crisis stabilization, relational support, skills building, case management, and team leadership.

In addition to my master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University, I have also completed additional certification in Sex Therapy. The Sex Therapy program was a crucial factor in my own evolving queer identity, and in the centering of intersectionality in therapeutic work.
