For most of us, life involves a lot of ups and downs. Sometimes we see them coming and can try to prepare, other times we are suddenly in situations we don’t feel equipped for and need to build new skills and evolve. When stressed, many of us respond based on patterns we learned while growing up. Therapy can help us understand our thinking processes, emotions, and patterns of behaviors.
When working with children, adolescents, and their families I recognize that when a child struggles it can be stressful for the whole family. Parents can feel under enormous pressure and may need individual support to be their best parenting selves. I strive to create a space where every family member can feel seen and heard, so that families can address patterns of behavior and explore emotions and solutions.
My approach...
I embrace a collaborative approach to therapy and believe that we are all constantly growing and developing as we are shaped by our life experiences. As a therapist, I work closely with you on that journey, finding opportunities to identify patterns, explore beliefs, and develop skills.
I work with children, adolescents, and families in individual and family therapy. Therapeutic approaches I draw from include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectal behavioral therapy (DBT), narrative therapy, solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), structural therapy, motivational interviewing, and attachment-based family therapy (ABFT).
I am trained in Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), which is my preferred method of working with young children because it honors that children communicate and process their emotions and experiences through play. Through the therapeutic power of play children can gain skills in problem-solving, independence, emotional regulation, and social skills.
Professional training & memberships...
I am completing my Master of Arts degree in Couple and Family Therapy and a Play Therapy certificate at Antioch University, Seattle. I have a certificate in parent coaching and have three years of experience as a certified peer counselor in the role of parent partner at Seattle Children’s Hospital, supporting families in the Adolescent Partial Hospitalization and Disruptive Behavior programs.
I have volunteer experience working with neurodivergent young adults at Seattle Children’s Alyssa Burnett Center. I am a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), the Washington Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (WAMFT), and the Association of Play Therapy (APT).
