Dawson Tisdale,

Pronouns: he/him

LMHCA

My belief is that therapy is a non-judgemental, safe, and collaborative space where anything can be shared and processed. Within that space I operate from a relational, person-centered, and psychodynamic approach. Meaning you, the client, will primarily direct where we go, what is discussed, and set the goals of our time working together, while I walk with you navigating through wherever our conversations lead.

Further, I believe that within all of us is the capacity to make the changes that lead us to living the lives that feel the most congruent with our truest selves and through working together we can facilitate that change.

I would describe a session with me as warm, collaborative, and rooted in the counseling relationship cultivated in session. In an effort to cultivate that relationship I invite people to share the breadth of their experiences and emotions; whether that be through sharing in laughter and humor or exploring vulnerability and sorrow.

My goal is to provide a space where you feel comfortable experiencing and exploring these emotions, being your authentic self, and feeling safe to explore anything that comes to mind. I believe that people often seek therapy due to recognizing the way they are living/experiencing life is incongruent with the way they want to live/experience life and through our sessions a congruence within oneself can be sought after and worked towards.

I draw from approaches like Person-Centered Counseling, Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Committal Therapy (ACT). In session, these approaches often manifest through slowing down and exploring various thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors; bolstering communication skills to develop and maintain meaningful relationships; directing sessions through current, past, and future concerns; and working on changing the beliefs/thoughts/behaviors that feel changeable while accepting the ones that do not, to have a more congruent experience through life.

I am committed to walk alongside you as you navigate the dynamically joyous and painful experience that is life and for those times when 99% of you is convinced that nothing can or will improve and hopelessness has settled in, I would be curious about the 1% that brought you here and keeps you going. Let’s start there.
