Finn Menzies, Clinical Intern
Pronouns: he/him
I am a white, transgender father, teacher-turned-therapist, and poet who spent fifteen years learning alongside children and families before completing my Master’s in Relational Therapy. Teaching felt like having my hands in the soil of our shared humanity, and parenting has stretched me even further: a life filled with art supplies, strawberries from our garden, and the unfurling humility of raising my autistic child. All of this shapes how I practice therapy: with reverence for diversity, tenderness toward wounds, and imagination for what is not yet possible.
My approach...
I draw inspiration from non-dualism, transformative justice, child development, poetry, and my own queer experience. In the therapy room, I weave somatic awareness, narrative therapy, and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). All of the growing we will do together gestures towards liberatory and decolonial futures.
In our time together, you can expect a space that is warm, curious, and attentive. With families, I guide parents and children in practicing new patterns of connection, such as slowing down, naming emotions beneath behaviors, and rehearsing more tender ways of reaching out to one another. We might also re-author the stories we have internalized, or I may offer simple somatic invitations. I also use humor to cultivate change and ease, especially when the work feels heavy. Laughter can loosen the grip of shame, so sometimes we may be with silence and other times we might laugh together at the absurdity of being human.
Professional training & memberships...
I am a Master’s level student in the Couple & Family Therapy program at Antioch University Seattle. Prior to grad school I earned an MFA in Poetry from Mills College, and a BA in Liberal Studies with a Minor in Gender Studies from Sonoma State University.
I have 15 years experience as an educator across early childhood, K-12 and alternative learning environments. I am a published poet and have facilitated workshops in integrating writing and embodiement.
