Therapy can be a means for us to gain support, build our self-awareness, assess and make sense of relationships and build a path towards our desired liberation from relational patterns. As someone who has taken that path personally, I understand the work involved in therapy, and the healing and connection that it can mobilize in someone’s life when they are able and ready. Feeling empowered as a client in this process I believe is key to identify and seek the healing and change we need. I hope to be a resource of support on this journey, and for clients to feel valued, heard, and supported in a way that helps them gain new perspective, clarity and healing.
My approach...
Therapy is a time to center your unique lived experience. I hope to partner with you to support a deeper curiosity and hold space for reflection. If desired, I can support your self-exploration of various generational, familial and socio-cultural frameworks and beliefs to understand the intersections and how it has impacted your relationships. Together, I hope to create a supportive space in which you can connect more with your needs and support you in advocating within your relationships.
I tend to integrate a variety of therapeutic approaches that accommodate your specific needs and goals. My approaches can include narrative, emotion-focused (EFT), acceptance and commitment (ACT), cognitive behavioral (CBT) and attachment-based therapies, as well as intersectional feminism, family systems, somatic and embodiment work. I believe most individuals benefit from an approach that is flexible, and attuned to their needs. I realize that my perspective can be different from the yours, and so I will routinely seek your feedback in our process to keep myself and our process accountable to your perspective and goals for therapy.
Therapeutic goals can serve as a way to help guide our process. They are also another means for us to hold our therapeutic work accountable in supporting you. Goals can give our work clarity, and help you see your growth and progress; goals not reached can also signal when we might need to adapt a different approach.
I believe there are significant benefits to both individual therapy and family therapy. The power of self-reflection in an intimate trusted space can yield deep self-understanding and sense-making of our lives and relationships. Family therapy sessions can also support a shared reflection and understanding of varying perspectives among family members who have struggled to connect and communicate. Family therapy can often yield a powerful relational change when members can share the therapeutic space together. I believe when we work together to build a safe and trusted space, amidst our relational wounds and communication struggles, we can repair and strengthen those connections and attachments.
