In a world that promotes disconnection and isolation, relationships are key to healing and thriving. In the therapeutic journey, I strive to create a safe and nonjudgmental space, where we can be authentic and genuine, build a trusting and collaborating relationship, and achieve change and growth.

Having lived in China and the U.S., I am deeply aware of intersectionality and its influences on our interactions with different social systems and on our personal and relational well-being. My goal is to facilitate and affirm your exploration of varying aspects of your identity so that you can live as authentic, encouraged, and connected with yourself, your relationships, and your communities.

My approach...

I work from an integrative approach that is rooted in existential psychotherapy, cultural-relational therapy, and multiculturalism. I value authenticity and relational connections to challenge the power, privilege, and oppression that influence our existential concerns as human beings. I believe that a working relationship characterized by genuineness, respect, and trust is the key to a promising therapeutic process and outcome.

I approach therapy by inviting clients to explore intersectional identities and how your identities influence your sense of freedom, meaning, and connection in life. I value this process because it provides a space for clients to gain a deeper understanding of who you are and your positions in your relationships and communities. I empower clients to take agency and autonomy to not only uncover your innate strengths and resiliency but also uncover your relational and community based strengths to help in your healing journey.

Professional training & memberships...

I completed my master’s degree in Counseling at Johns Hopkins University and my Ph.D. in Counseling Education and Supervision at Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to this, I received my bachelor’s degree in English from Sichuan International Studies University Chengdu Institute.

I am a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), Society for Sexual, Affectional, Intersex, and Gender Expansive Identities (SAIGE), and International Association for Resilience and Trauma Counseling (IARTC). I have worked in school and clinical settings with a diverse range of youth and adults on identity-related issues (race, gender, sexual/affectional orientation), family conflict, anxiety, and depression.
