First and foremost, you are not a problem! Unconsciously internalizing the messages from our surroundings that we are a problem can leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or that we’re just not good enough. I aim to assist in the process of healing from these internalized messages and empower clients to discover their own meaning about themselves, the world, and their lives. I believe there is power in naming our problems as existing outside of ourselves. My goal is to help clients learn how to separate themselves from the problems affecting them, giving them the space to evaluate it objectively so they can start taking steps to reduce its impact on their lives.
As a therapist, I strive to provide a friendly environment where clients feel relaxed enough to let their walls down and engage in honest conversation. I place great value on building a strong therapeutic relationship with each client and will often revisit the integrity of this connection throughout the therapy process.
I also fully understand how hard it can be to discuss uncomfortable topics and know how easily anxiety can negatively impact the therapeutic space. Therefore, I try to create an environment based on trust and safety with each client.
My approach...
My approach to therapy is integrative and client centered. I utilize elements of Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solutions Focused Therapy (SFBT), Experiential Therapy, and Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS). I strive to tailor the therapeutic experience to each client’s needs. I am also committed to upholding an anti-oppressive environment and incorporate an Internalized Oppression framework into my practice.
As your therapist, I will follow your lead and stay with you in your experience while remaining non-judgmental and accepting of where you are. Together we will explore your negative thoughts, their impact on you and learn how to replace them with thoughts that are more helpful.
Being a family therapist means I think in terms of systems and consider how each member a family and couple system mutually influence one another. I will help uncover problem cycles that reinforce conflict and collaboratively search for ways to interrupt these cycles.
