I am a firm believer in the power of the therapeutic relationship.

I use an eclectic and playful approach which begins with establishing a therapeutic alliance based on trust, honesty, compassion, and collaboration. This means that I really like to take the time to get you to know you and understand who you are as a person before giving any feedback.

My theoretical approach is grounded in Buddhist Psychology which I believe promotes long term growth vs. short term solutions. In taking the time to get to know you, I tailor my approach to your specific goals and interests.

My approach...

Developing a strong therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of my practice and I view my clients as partners in the therapeutic process. While I have expertise in what can cultivate growth, change, and increased well-being for people; you are the expert of your experience.

Over the years, I have heard clients tell me again and again that past therapists would listen as they told their stories, but didn't offer any concrete methodology or new paradigm to work with. I will follow your lead. I can be very directive or allow there to be space for you to share your story with a witness who offers support and guidance. You help me direct the session.

For those interested in finding a therapist for their child or teen, depending on the reason for therapy, I will require parent involvement unless the child/teen (13 and over per WA) asks that we keep our sessions confidential. This doesn't mean that I will want you in for every session; however, I do not allow "drop offs" for youth under 13. I build parental check-ins into our therapy time.

Theoretically, I integrate Buddhist Psychology and mindfulness with behavioral interventions (CBT, DBT, etc). I am trained in Drama Therapy, EMDR, and Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT), Somatic Experiencing (SE) and I work with trauma and complex PTSD.

Professional training & memberships...

After receiving my BFA back in 1998 and working as a theatre artist into my late 20s, I decided to go back to school to continue my pursuit of examining the human experience. After a great deal of reflection on how I wanted to contribute to the world, I received my Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2007.

I have worked in very diverse communities from inner city Chicago to Mercer Island, WA. My career path has included school based mental health, crisis services, residential treatment, private practice, and community mental health. I have enjoyed working with diverse populations and have learned a great deal from my clients over the years.
